Angela is a multidisciplinary artist. She strives to create thought-provoking works of art that evoke emotions and stimulate the senses. She explores various mediums such as painting, embroidery, sculpture, site-specific installations and murals, digital and mixed media and jewelry design. She uses embroidery techniques and color as a way to deepen her connections with her ancestors and her cultural heritage.
Much of her inspiration comes from the emotional and natural world around her, lived experiences preserved through personal and cultural memories and the passing of time and its influence in our development as humans. The constantly shifting emotions of a transnational identity, allusions of displacement, belonging, familiar bonds, and self-reflection are present in the works of art she creates.
Combining representation and abstraction, her aim is to find balance between an intuitive creative process that embraces the flow of ideas through experimentation and exploration, as well as her need to effectively communicate a specific narrative that will hopefully spark conversations and encourage engagement with art in a meaningful way.
As an art educator, her mission is to create works of art conducive to critical thinking and interpretation.
She presents these works in inclusive spaces where transparent dialogues can take place and serve as growth opportunities for individuals looking to become agents of change in their communities. Angela is a ProjectArt 2021-2022 Education and Social Impact Resident Artist, as well as the inaugural 2021-2022 School Initiatives Resident Teaching Artist at the Institute of Contemporary Art Miami.
