The Body of Time
2025
Textile, gouache, and acrylic
on drop cloth
48 X 24 in. (each panel)

he Body of Time continues an exploration of memory through transformation. Created from the side panels of a gifted kimono, the work reimagines a garment once shaped by the presence of the body. Removed from its original form and set upon canvas, each fragment carries traces of lived experience while opening itself to new possibilities.

The meeting of textile and canvas brings together different material traditions, allowing softness and structure to exist in quiet dialogue. Rather than preserving the garment as it was, the work embraces change, suggesting that memory is not diminished through transformation but renewed by it.

As the kimono panels find a new place within the composition, they no longer clothe the body. Instead, they become a space for remembrance, where material holds the imprint of time, inviting us to reflect on how the objects we inherit continue to shape our understanding of identity, belonging, and home.
